An Analysis Of Reading Comprhension Questions In English Textbook For 12th Grade Students Based On Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy

Abstrak

Reading as a part of language skill is a critical life skill that every society in our globalize world must obtain. The students require to have sufficient reading skill to support them in order to extract and absorb information from available sources. The activity of reading usually done by the use of textbook. Textbook is an equipment of teaching and learning process. Hence, textbook that available in classroom should be suitable for the students. It has to encourage the neeed of HOTS for the students. In consequences, this research was done in order to know the number of reading comprehension questions‟ level between HOTS and LOTS. This research conducted using qualitative research approach and content analysis research design because this research focused on analyzing a textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris” SMA/MA/SMK/MAK for 12 grade students published by Ministry of Education and Culture in 2018. Checklist table used as instrument to answer two research questions. To get the validity of data, the writer use expert validation. The result of this research found a total of 142 reading comprehension questions. The 81% of them are categorized as LOTS while 19% categorized as HOTS. It indicated that this textbook concentrated more on lower-level thinking than higher level thinking questions. In conclusion, the teacher must construct their own reading comprehension questions in order to fill the need of HOTS questions.
