Correlation Among Vocabulary Mastery, Reading Interest And Reading Comprehension Of The Tenth Grade Students Of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Kediri

Abstrak

Reading is an activity to capture the reading of information expressed or implied in the form of literal, inferential, evaluative, and creative of reading comprehension by drawing on the experience of learning to read. The objectives of this research were to know whether (1) there is a correlation between students‟ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension, (2) there is a correlation between students‟ reading interest and reading comprehension, (3) there is a correlation between students‟ vocabulary mastery and reading Interest, (4) there is a correlation among vocabulary mastery, reading interest and reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Kediri. The method used in this study was a quantitative approach and the technique used in this study was a correlational study. The population of this research is 125 students. While the collect the data, researcher take 30% students from science class and social class, which mean around 41 students take as a sample. In the taking the sample of the research was gained through total sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire to measure students‟ reading interest and test for students‟ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. The result of this study, researcher used Pearson correlation and Regression linier (multiple correlation) with SPSS ver 25 for windows. The researcher showed that 1. Correlation between students‟vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the value sig. (2-tailed) is 0.00 (0.00 < 0.05), it means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. While for the coefficient correlation between students‟vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension was 0.985, means that both of variables have a strong positive correlation. 2. Correlation between students‟reading interest and reading comprehension of the value sig. (2-tailed) is 0.00 (0.00 < 0.05), it means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. While for the coefficient correlation between students‟ reading interest and reading comprehension was -0.917, means that both of variables have a strong negative correlation. 3. Correlation between students‟vocabulary mastery and reading interest of the value sig. (2-tailed) is 0.00 (0.00 < 0.05), it means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. While for the coefficient correlation between students‟vocabulary mastery and reading interest was -0.930, means that both of variables have a strong negative correlation. 4. Correlation among vocabulary mastery, reading interest and reading comprehension of the value sig. f change (2- tailed) is 0.00 (0.00 < 0.05), it means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted.
