Genre Analysis of Recount Texts Written By 11th Grade Students Of Vocational High School in SMK KARYA WATES
Abstrak
There are many genres in English lesson. Recount text is one of genres that should be taught in Senior High School based on Indonesian National Curriculum. Recount text, like other text, contains several elements. Those elements are generic structure, social function, and lexico-grammatical feature. This research tried to answer the question about how was the students’ recount text writing ability in terms of genre. This study aims to know students ability in writing recount text. This research used descriptive qualitative research method. The participants of this research are 11th grade students of SMK Karya Wates. The students are asked to write a recount text under the theme Experience in Majoring Multimedia. The recount text written by the students become the data of this research. After the data were collected, the researcher analyzed the data based on theory of genre analysis. Additionally, the students ability in writing recount text was measured based on scoring rubric made by the researcher. There are 15 recount texts that were analyzed. The result shows that some students still struggle in writing a recount text. Some students get problem in generic structure, some make a mistake in social function, and other students make many errors in lexico-grammatical feature. In addition, most students get low score in lexico-grammatical feature measurement. Hence, the researcher suggest the next researcher to implement a method in order to improve students ability in writing recount text, especially the lexico-grammatical feature.
