Small Group Discussion is one of method that can chance the students to more active in speaking in group. Small Group Discussion is method that consists of three until five persons in each group to discuss the topic and find the solution to overcome the problem. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of using Small Group Discussion in teaching speaking skill at MA Darul Hikmah Mojokerto. Small Group Discussion is one of method that can encourage the students to participate more actively in speaking group. Small Group Discussion is strategy which consists of three until five persons in each group to discuss the topic and find the solution to overcome the problem. This research is based on quasi experimental design. The participants in this research are eleventh grade students of MA Darul Hikmah. The sample consist of two classes, there are XI MIPA 1 as an experimental group and XI IPS 2 as a control group. Small Group Discussion was used to teach the experimental group, whereas the control group was not given the treatment. Both of experimental and control group were given pre-test and post-test to collect data. The test results were analyzed using ANCOVA in SPSS 24. After analyzing the data, the author discovered that Small Group Discussion technique has significant effect to improve students’ speaking skill of MA Darul Hikmah Mojokerto, which the significant value is p (0.000) < α (0.05), it is less than 0.05. It means that the researcher has sufficient data to reject the null hypothesis. The alternative hypothesis is accepted. It indicates that using small group discussion as learning strategy is effective in teaching speaking skill and this technique can increase students’ speaking skill.
