This study examines the use of directive speech acts, which are commonly employed in daily communication, particularly in the movie Turning Red. Directive speech acts involve the speaker instructing or persuading the listener to perform or refrain from a specific action. The objectives of this research are to analyze the various types of directive speech acts present in the Turning Red movie and to determine the most frequently occurring ones. The research approach employed in this study is descriptive qualitative, where the data is analyzed based on its characteristics. The researcher serves as the instrument for data collection. The data is obtained from the Turning Red movie, and the researcher identifies and categorizes the different types of directive speech acts. Subsequently, the data is analyzed using George Yules theory to determine the frequency of each type of directive speech act. The results of this study showed total 240 data which were grouped into 4 classifications according to the classification of Yule’s theory. In detail the data was 72 (30.00%) belongs to command utterances. Then 69 (28.75%) data belong to order utterance. It follows with, 57 (23,75%) data belong to request utterances, and the last 42 (17.50%) data belongs suggest utterances. The result above, the types of directive speech acts that most frequently used in the Turning Red movie is command. The possible reason why command utterance is frequently used by the characters in Turning Red movie is related to how Lees family in Turning Red movie used the Chinese parenting style.
