Teaching English to Blind Student at MTsLB.A.Yaketunis-Jogjakarta
Abstrak
Teaching English to blind students is not easy. Indonesian students learn English as a second language. They speak their mother tongue in every day lives. In other hand, blind students can not see the position of teacher’s tongue when they study English. Spoken English is different from written English; they just hear the sound sharply. To answer this problem, formulated in the research, there was Competence -Based Curriculum but material and strategy given conditionally made by English teacher and so the evaluation. This research is descriptive qualitative research. This study uses three kinds of data collection, observation, interview and document with researcher as instrument of collecting data. At MTsLB.A.Yaketunis (Yayasan Kesejahteraan Tunanetra Islam)- Jogjakarta with 7 students in class 1, 1 student in class 2 and 5 students in class 3, the data collected in a week begin May, 21 until 28, 2007. This research shows that disabilities student such as blind student have wide chance for getting equal education, skill and knowledge. With their disabilities, they are mastering two skill OM (Orientation and Mobilisation) and Braille for their ability to do activity in teaching and learning process. The English teacher must mastering two skills OM and Braille to be a professional teacher of teach to blind student and to make easy of teaching and learning process.
