Studying literary is very important, because it relates with the real life around us. The problem in the real life relates literary work, such as: get success and etc. Studying about literature has some benefits, they are learn vocabulary, get more knowledge, give moral message and many more. This research discuss about novel which title “9 Summers 10 Autumns” by Iwan Setyawan. This novel is one of bestseller in Indonesia since 2011. The researcher chooses a novel as the object of the study. The researchers limit her research on: the researcher analyze focus on the main character that is Iwan Setyawan. And the researcher focuses to analyze about characters’ need, problem and effort by Iwan Setyawan in the novel. The researcher uses qualitative as research design to discuss the novel. The objective of this study discusses about 9 Summers 10 Autumns novel as the primary data source. The researcher uses description and narration in 9 Summers 10 Autumns novel. The study uses an instrument. The instrument of this study is the researchers herself. The researcher becomes dat collector and interpreter. The researcher uses triangulation to complete the data with the other data. It will be used to discuss the problem of this thesis which title “Iwan Setyawan’s effort to get success abroad in 9 Summers 10 Autumns by Iwan Setyawan”. The primary source is coming from the novel of 9 Summers 10 Autumns itself. The secondary data source is coming from books, video, internet, and biography related to this novel and Iwan Setyawan as a written of this novel. This research studies about how to get success abroad of Iwan Setyawan. Iwan Setyawan is success person. He was Director of Internal Client Management in Nielsen Consumer Research, New York. Since he was a kid, Iwan has though life. Iwan comes from modest family. But, he always tries hard and struggles to get his success in the future. He also really loves his family. For him, family is everything. He gets success because of support from his family. There is some good teach from his characters, problems and efforts to get success abroad. That are Iwan always studies hard to get academic achievement when he was in school years, he also works to help out his parents and Iwan always serious and never gives up when he works until he gets an award as The Best Employee of The Month in his office and he also gets promote from his ex-manager as data processing in New York.
