An Analysis On Teachers Strategy In Teaching Speaking At SMKN 2 Kota Kediri

Abstrak

In teaching speaking English, EFL teachers are expected not only to have good English proficiency especially in speaking, but also have prominent knowledge of teaching speaking strategies to create a cooperative classroom and gain students interest in learning speaking. They should be well informed in implementing the strategies in the right time and place according to students‟ characteristics and needs. This present study aims to find out the teacher‟s strategy in teaching speaking and how the teacher implements the strategy in teaching speaking according with the learning context at SMKN 2 Kota Kediri. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The subjects were one EFL teacher who taught class 11 AKL (akutansi)-2 at SMKN 2 Kota Kediri. In collecting the data, classroom observations, interview, and documentation were used as the techniques. The data collected were identified, classified, and analyze to get information about the strategy have been used and the implemented by the teacher in the classroom during teaching learning process. The findings showed the teachers implemented discussion strategy, drilling strategy, role-play strategy, presentation strategy, and dialogue strategy as the teaching speaking strategies. The most dominant teaching speaking strategy used by teacher was dialogue and discussion. Role play strategy is less suitable in SMKN 2 Kota Kediri because the preparation and time duration become big problem in the strategy. Teaching speaking strategies could promote and support the students speaking skill so that they could be more active in speaking English accurately and fluently.
