Teachers should not only establish an active learning environment and improve their teaching media, but they should also consider their students gender differences since male and female speakers have been seen to have various speaking styles, read in different ways, and write about different topics. In order for the learning process to go smoothly and the learning objectives to be achieved, teachers must be able to use appropriate media that can be utilized to increase students Englishspeaking skills. Teachers should incorporate technology into the knowledge transmission process. One of the technology that can be used as media in education is Digital Storytelling. This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of digital storytelling in teaching speaking for students with different gender. The research was quasi-experimental research. The sample of the research was two classes of ninth grade students of MTsN 1 Kediri. Class IX-G was enrolled to experimental group, while Class IX-I was enrolled to control group. A set of pretest and posttest were used as the instrument of the research. The treatments were given to experimental group in three meetings. The hypothesis was tested using ANCOVA analysis to know the effectiveness of the method used, and independent sample t-test was run to know the difference among gender. The findings revealed that there is significant difference in speaking achievement between students who are taught by using digital storytelling and students who are not (printed text) (sig.= .0000 < .05). There is no significant difference between male students who are taught using digital storytelling and printed text (sig= .416 > .05). The mean of experimental group is 70 then; the mean of control group was 67.5. There is a significant difference between female who are taught using digital storytelling and printed text (sig.= .003 < .05). The mean scores of those two groups proves the difference; the mean of experimental group is 75.29 then, the mean of control group was 64.83. This study is hoped to be the reference for teaching speaking media and to give insight for other researchers. Furthermore, this study is expected to be employed in speaking class to create the students’ anthusiasm.
