The Implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka in Teaching English for Seventh Grade at SMPN 3 Kediri

Abstrak

The impact of online learning due to pandemic is learning loss. It is caused by some causes, such as education environment, national education standard, and teacher. Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek), Nadiem Makarim takes action to create a new curriculum named Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum). The aim of this study is to understand the implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka in teaching English for seventh grade at SMPN 3 Kediri. The study used descriptive qualitative method. The researcher uses observation and interview as the instrument of the study. The subject teachers of seventh grade SMPN 3 Kediri. The interview is conducted with two English teachers of seventh grade at SMPN 3 Kediri. For the validity, the researcher uses triangulation from expert. From the observation and interview, the teacher applies Kurikulum Merdeka guidance from the government. There are two activities, intracurricular and Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5). The method used is genre-based approach. The steps of that method are Building Knowledge of the Field (BKOF), Modelling of the Text (MOT), Joint Construction of the Text (JCOT), and Individual Construction of the Text (ICOT). In teaching process, the teacher uses some media, such as English book, YouTube video, and short movie.
