The Effectiveness of Using Google Sites In Teaching Reading

Abstrak

The presence of technology has significantly influenced multiple aspects of our lives, including the field of education. Integrating technology into teaching and learning practices has showen to capture students’ interest and engagement. One of competences where techonlogy can be effectively employed is in reading activities. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using Google Sites in teaching reading. This research used Quasi-experimental study. It involved 60 students of tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Kras in the second semester of academic 2022/2023. The classes were divided into two groups: X-kuliner 2 as the experimental group and X-kuliner 3 as control group. In the research, the students of X-kuliner 2 were taught by using Google Sites focused on narrative text, while X-kuliner 3 were taught by using English printed book from kemendikbud focused on narrative text. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the data. The data was analyzed by using ANCOVA in SPSS 25. The result showed that mean pre-test in experimental class was 56.1667 and the mean of control class was 53.8333. Besides, the mean of post-test in experimental class was 83.8333 and the mean score of control class was 78.5000. The result of ANCOVA showed that the significant value is .006 (p<α 0.05). It can be concluded that using Google Sites is effective in teaching reading for tenth-grade students at SMKN 1 Kras, because the use of technology in teaching and learning was simple, practical, and attractive, so that the teaching process was interesting.
