Improving Students Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text Using Herringbone Technique of the Eighth grade of Mts Al-Fatah Badas

Abstrak

Reading is a factor of great importance in the individual development and the most important activity in school. It is needed in every level of field of study. In MTs Al-Fatah, the teacher still teaches using uninteresting method. The teacher teaches reading just explaining and giving the meaning for each new vocabulary to students. It makes them lazy in reading comprehension activity. Based on the problem, the researcher chooses the herringbone technique to improve their reading comprehension in narrative text. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) on this study; the researcher will collaborate with English teacher as collaborator on the class. This research consists of two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings. After the researcher applied the technique, the average score of students in cycle 1 is 74, 4 where 16 students get good score and 8 students get poor score. And the achievement class percentage is 66, 7 %. It has not reached the criteria of success in this study. So, the researcher revised the plan and continues to the next cycle. In cycle2 the average score of students increase becoming 84, 4 where 24 students get good score and none get poor score. And the achievement class of percentage increase becoming 100%. It has reached the criteria of success which was decided by the researcher and the collaborator that the students’ achievement improves 80% or more get score 75 minimally. So, the herringbone technique that applied for the eighth grade of MTs al-Fatah Badas was qualified to be able to improve the students’ achievement in reading narrative text.
