Speaking ability is one of the important aspects in learning English. This learning must be supported by the right technique or strategy so that it can be taught optimally. In this study, it was found that there were students who were not able to communicate well due to lack of speaking ability. This is because the learning is still focused on the teacher who uses traditional methods, as well as the lack of opportunity for students to practice speaking English in class. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the 4/3/2 technique in teaching speaking. This research used quantitative method with quasi-experimental design. The subjects of this study were students of class X MAN 2 Kediri with the class chosen as the research sample was class X-H as the experimental group and class X-G as the control group. The pre-test and post-test were administered to collect the data. Then the results were calculated using ANCOVA in SPSS 25. The results showed that the 4/3/2 technique had a significant effect in teaching speaking. Significant results are evidenced by the result that p (0.000) < α (0.05) which means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Based on the above results it can be concluded that the 4/3/2 technique is effective to teach speaking.
