This research was about a semiotic analysis on Instagram story of English students 2015/2016 IAIN Kediri which aimed to explore the types of signs to analyze the meaning of the three elements of signs including icons, indexes, and symbols in the instagram stories. This research was a descriptive qualitative method using a semiotic theory advocated by Pierce as its theoretical framework. The data for this research were collected from Instagram stories by taking relevant parts in the Instagram stories. This research was conducted in order to know the meaning of icon, index, symbol, that are expressed in Instagram stories for students majoring in English department about semiotic, especially in the use of Pierce’s semiotic theory. To analyze instagram stories ,the result took there are 10 instagram stories consist of 6 symbol,1 icons, and 3 index, then from this division can be found some sign that uploaded is an icon that means that the participants try to present some symbol and the meaning of the symbol that had meanings to show their identity. For example in hijab symbol which is the important symbol of moeslim people. Then is an icon, a mode in which the signifier is assumed to be an imitation of the signified. And for the last meaning in the object is index, the researcher concluded that the participants in this study made a story about their daily lives to show that there were several events that they have gone through and a mode in which the signifier is not arbitrary, but is entirely related to signified, the relationship between the two can be easily seen and observed.
