The Correlation Between Students’ Motivation And Vocabulary Size of The Eleventh Grade Students of Darul Hikmah Islamic Senior High School Tulungagung

Abstrak

Motivation is one of the important things in learning process. The motivation can help someone achieve his or her goals if he or she has strong motivation in doing steps, Moreover in English learning process vocabulary is a basic point that every students need, students who have a good vocabulary they will have a good comunication in English, but the students don’t realize about it. So they need to know about that. However, not every students have the same motivation in learning English. The problem of this research is: is there any correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary size? This research used quantitative research method, with 43 students for the sample, a Pearson Product Moment technique is used to measure the correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary size. The instrument of this research are a questionnaire of Motivation for Foreign Languange Learner (MFLL) and Vocabulary Size Test (VST). The result of this research showed the correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary size test which calculated with Pearson Product Moment mentioned that there is no correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary size test. The data also shows that the coefficient value is 0.117, it means that there is very low correlation between students’ motivation and students’ vocabulary size.
