Students’ Preferences to Written Corrective Feedback of the Fourth Semester in English Department of IAIN Kediri
Abstrak
Writing is a complex process and a conceptual task. Writing is showing a product involving grammatical and lexical knowledge. Feedback is an important part of writing that has given by the teachers. Written feedback is one way the teacher responds to the student that is very useful to improve the students writing ability. This study is aimed to investigate the types of written corrective feedback that are preferred by the students in their writing. Furthermore, this study also to know the students responses after receives feedback from the teachers. It makes them improve writing skills and decrease some errors in writing. The research of this study is descriptive quantitative research. The subjects of this study are 120 students of the fourth semester who had given academic writing class. This research uses a questionnaire as the main instrument to collect the data and analyzes data through computing data into SPSS 23. The focus of this research is to find the students preferences to types of written corrective feedback and students’ response to the teacher’s feedback. This research only focuses on three types of written feedback namely direct, indirect, and metalinguistic corrective feedback. The finding presented that students prefer to direct corrective feedback. The percentage of direct feedback is 37,5%, indirect feedback is 29,16%, and metalinguistic feedback is 30,0%. It can be concluded that direct feedback has a high percentage. According to the mean average of the students scores, the researcher concluded that the students have a positive response to the teachers feedback and most of the students use the internet to find more references. And the last, the students ask their classmates for help.
