App. Ling, Ph.D. Keywords: The difficulties, writing, descriptive text Writing is one of the most important language skills to master in order to master English. In writing, we can express our ideas, feelings, and opinions through written language. This research aims to describe the students difficulties in writing descriptive text faced by seventh grade students in SMP 2 Pare who have difficulty in writing descriptive text. The method of this research is the descriptive qualitative method. The data was collected from the seventh grade students SMP 2 Pare, which consists of 30 students. The data was collected by test and interview. The researcher analyzed the data using the techniques of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing The result of this research shows that the students of VII H who have difficulties in writing descriptive texts also have difficulties in generic structure, difficulties in grammar, and difficulties in spelling. The factors of students’ difficulties in writing descriptive text, they have lack in vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics in writin. Because many students did not have skills in English language, the studens of VII H never to learning English language in Elementary School. So, that English teacher should teach them basic of English language.
