The Implementation of Intensive English Course Program on Students’ Speaking Skill at Sharif Hidayatullah Cyber Pesantren

Abstrak

Intensive English Course Program had an important role in the pesantren. In addition to having an effect on students’ speaking skill, it is also to provide general English skills so that students could communicate well in English. In addition to studying religious knowledge, students are also given English language program. The purpose of this research to explore the implementation of Intensive English Course Program and to identify the challenges faced by teacher and students in implementing Intensive English Course Program on students’ speaking skill at Sharif Hidayatullah Cyber Pesantren. This research used qualitative research method with a descriptive design. The research was conducted at Sharif Hidayatullah Cyber Pesantren. The subject of this research were 1 teacher of the program and 3 students of fifth semester at Sharif Hidayatullah Cyber Pesantren. The results showed that both teacher and students have important roles in the implementation of this program. The Intensive English Course Program is a special feature of this boarding school, because not all boarding schools offer this course program. The teacher and students implementation of Intensive English Course Program could affect on students’ speaking skill and provided real-life situation and real communication with various ways such as games, role play in pair, group discussion, and presentation.
