An interesting plot is determined by author’s creativity in building the plot ‎elements. The building of plot elements is assisted by tiniest elements as called as ‎motif. The motif interprets meaningful action in the story. The research used Alice’s ‎Adventures in Wonderland novel as the object of the research that has twelve ‎chapters. Therefore, the objectives of the research are to analyze the episodic plot ‎elements and to discover motifs in each chapter of the novel. ‎ The research used a qualitative descriptive research design to explore episodic ‎plot elements and motifs in the novel. The data were collected by close reading the ‎novel, highlighting the plot elements and motifs that had been found in each chapter, ‎and taking notes. The episodic plot elements were analyzed by employing seven ‎important plot elements of Jarvis’s Major Dramatic Curve (2014) such as resting ‎period, inciting incident, rising action, crisis point, climax, falling action, and new ‎resting period or resolution. Then, the motifs were discovered by using Thompson’s ‎Motif-Index of Folk-Literature (1955) that has twenty-three alphabetic classes of ‎motif where each of class has motif number and motif title as a tool to identify and to ‎categorize the motif. ‎ The results of the research show that episodic plot elements in the novel are ‎built incoherently. The inciting incident, the rising action, and the climax are the most ‎plot elements that occurred in each chapter, while the less plot element that occurred ‎was the resting period. Then, the research found fifteen motifs such as curiosity ‎‎(W137), magic underground journey (D2131.1), transformation of tears to other ‎object (D457.18), transformation by eating or drinking (D550), person magically ‎becomes smaller (D55.2), person magically becomes larger (D55.1), person does not ‎know himself (J2012), absurd (J2200), riddles with “none” as answer (H881), rude ‎retorts (J1350), injustice punished (Q296), punished by beheading (Q421), school of ‎animals (B234), senseless judiciary decision (M1), and journey to other world as ‎dream or vision (F1). In conclusion, the plot and the motifs are mutually intertwined. ‎The presence of magic and absurd motifs in interpreting the plot create a mysterious ‎storyline that made the storyline is interesting. Future research is suggested to ‎continue identifying culture in which the motif found, relative motif, and tale type of ‎the motifs in Alice’s story that have not been discussed in the research. ‎
