Abstrak

Autonomous learning strategies require learners to take control of their learning process, which aligns with modern learning trends that emphasize independence and personalization in learning. Speaking skills, in particular, are often considered one of the most challenging aspects of English as a foreign language. The importance of developing speaking skills, which is a vital competency for English language learners to communicate effectively. Thus, this study was conducted to provide added value by showing the real impact of self-learning strategies. This study aims to determine EFL learners autonomous strategies for speaking skills and their outcomes. A descriptive qualitative design was employed, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data. Surveys measured the strategies used and implemented in speaking skills, while the questionnaire was distributed to 89 students of the English department, 50 English courses, and 81 senior high school students from various schools. The participants included diverse EFL learners from different cultural and educational backgrounds. Qualitative and survey analyses were employed to analyze the collected data. The result of autonomous strategies greatly enhances the speaking abilities of EFL learners. Students can practice speaking in various contexts by taking charge of their learning, thereby building confidence and proficiency. The autonomy provided allows learners to engage in consistent and personalized practice, addressing their needs and challenges. As a result, learners experience improved organization of thoughts, clearer expression, and an increased ability to engage in spontaneous dialogue. Consequently, EFL learners who employ autonomous strategies develop more effective speaking skills for their outcome, enabling them to communicate more proficiently and naturally in the target language.
