The Effectiveness of Using Herringbone Technique in Teaching Reading Comprehension at Mts Nurul Islam Kota Kediri
Abstrak
Reading is one of the language skills that should be mastered by foreign language students. It plays a big role as a means of communication to achieve ideas and information. Reading is an exercise dominated by the eyes and the brain. Teaching foreign to students learners must be fun and interisting to them. A teacher can teach reading comprehension by narrative text such as herringbone technique. Herringbone technique is the strategy used in this study. Herringbone Technique is a graphic organizer which represent visual information and concepts in teaching learning process. It is a useful technique for analyzing a single idea or text. The herringbone technique develops comprehension of the main idea by plotting: who, what, when, where, why, and how question on a visual graphic of a fish skeleton. The research design used in this study is quasi experimental design, by comparing two groups of the study, experimental group and control group. In every group consist of 30 students. The experimental group was taught by using herringbone technique and control group was tought non herringbone technique. Before and after doing treatment, reseacher gave the test to students are pretest and posttest. The result of the test was analyzed by ANCOVA through SPSS 24.0. The result of the test of between-subject effect, the significant is (p).015< .05 level. Since the significant value is smaller than .05 statically there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis, then the alternative hypothesis was received. It means that teaching reading comprehension with Herringbone technique is effective.
